Vintage Sewing Pattern 1870s Ladies' Corset Cover Depew #3183 - Paper Version

Description

This is a printed paper sewing pattern for a charming 1870s corset cover. This is a reproduction of a very hard-to-find Mme. Demorest pattern from the mid-to-late 1870s. The original pattern description reads: "The simplest style of corset cover that can be made, cut with a French back, side gores under the arms, and a single dart in each side of the front. It may be made in any goods suitable for the purpose, and trimmed in any desired style." Rather have a PDF pattern? Find that here. Year/ Era: mid-to-late 1870s. These patterns were marketed originally in the 1800s to both experienced seamstresses and professionals alike and assume that you have a solid understanding of clothing construction. The original pattern only included very basic instructions in French, which we have translated into English. To sew these, you should have a basic understanding of how pattern pieces should fit together. DIFFICULTY LEVEL: Advanced Couturière. May include little-to-no instructions, no facings, no buttonhole markings, no seam allowances, no hand-holding of any kind etc. If you like a challenge, if your friends refer to you as the sewing God/ Goddess, if you are made of thread, needles, and ferocity, this pattern is for you. Please note that we are unable to provide any sewing help with advanced-level patterns. You will get a clean, working, translated, beautiful pattern but please don't expect help with sewing questions on these. There simply aren't enough hours in the day for us to provide that service to everyone. By purchasing this pattern, you are agreeing that you have accepted the challenge of an advanced-level sewing pattern. As such, we kindly request that you refrain from sending us messages or feedback suggesting that this pattern is "too hard". We all need to challenge ourselves and learn new skills, and this pattern may very well teach you something new! Madame Demorest (a.k.a. Ellen Louise Demorest) was a clever businesswoman and US fashion arbiter. She was a successful milliner and is often credited with the invention of mass-produced tissue-paper sewing patterns She established her own company to sell the patterns, which were adaptations of the latest French fashions, and also published a magazine to promote them (beginning in 1860). Her dressmaking patterns made French styles accessible to ordinary women and greatly influenced American fashion in the mid-to-late 1800s. Copyright 2022 Mrs. Depew Vintage LLC. All rights reserved.
